I think the output of both post-split is interesting, as it really demonstrates the phrase the whole being more than the sum of the parts.

Gilmour's Floyd had the dreamy, melodic soundscapes without any of the lyrical bite, with Waters solo output perhaps being the reverse of this. So much better together.

The comment made about going on too long was interesting too. Knowing when to stop must be one of the hardest things to decide if you are in that position. Especially if you are still selling out stadia around the world.

I think many performers find this. People making albums will often continue tinkering right up to the absolute deadline they have to submit it. Without a deadline, some can keep going for years.

They're alright but they're no Jive Bunny.

Re: Pink Floyd
I saw Waters and his band in Perth in 2018 and they were excellent. Did all of DSOTM but it took 2 female sungers to cover the mad vocals by Clare Torry.

As a side note, Torry got paid 30 quid for her stint on the day of recording.

I could say it's a pleasure living rent free in this lying, stalking creep's head, but, unsurprisingly, it's an empty, drab cesspit devoid of anything. https://ibb.co/PZFn8yt

As for Floyd - they do sound sublime after a reefa, but so does almost everything.

Re: Pink Floyd
The Final Cut contained a lot of the material that never made it onto The Wall.

This was one of the major factors of the rift between Waters and the rest of the band that went on to cause the eventual split.

I love music that inspires and makes the hairs on my neck stand up... Pink Floyd does not do either for me... so it's a no from me

Agree dm, The Endless River was utter dogshit.
Still think The Wall and The Final Cut were their best efforts. Feels like both albums were cut from the same cloth, at least imo.

Re: Pink Floyd
As a punk it was my job to hate them and all prog rock bands with a vengeance.

I went out with a hippy bird who dragged me along to 'A Day For Tibet' at Ally Pally where the Dali Lama was going to give a speech. I REALLY didn't want to go but knew that saying no was more trouble than it was worth.

Anyway, it was nice and sunny and I knew I could have a kip on the grass while she mooched around the various tents with her tofu-eating pals.

It really was a small event with literally ten tents and about 250 people there so I did what I said I would do and plotted up on the grass in the sun and fell asleep.

Suddenly I heard the most mad guitar sound I'd ever heard bouncing off the stage between speakers set up at the side of the stage and behind the tents in a kind of quadrophonic delay. It was such an amazing sound that I jumped to my feet to see what all the fuss was about and sure enough it was Dave Gilmore giving it his all on the guitar.

After that the whole band appeared and they played for at least an hour and I must admit I thought they were brilliant. Comfortably Numb remains one of my favourite songs to this day.

It was an all-round strange experience, that day. Before the Dali Lama appeared a bird in full Tibetan costume appeared and said in broken English that everyone should chant 'ooooooommmmmm' because he was their God and we should welcome him that way.

I of course thought 'bollocks to that' but the whole crowd chanted that note and I went dizzy and my nose gushed with blood! It didn't stop bleeding for a couple of hours.

Like I say, a very strange experience all round.

They're one of the very best bands of all time. Inspired brilliance, distinctive genuis.

CamHam, listen more and you'll get it.

Re: Pink Floyd
"world beaters". Are you 12? Music not a sport. "DSoTM" is the 4th best selling album of all time so I "guess so" in stats.

Like a lot of artists they have good tracks on an album and bad. Personally I think "WYWH" 1975 is their best and most complete which Gilmour would agree on. After that I think they went pretty shit like Animals and the Wall had one good song.

Re: Pink Floyd
Am not a Floyd fan at all, anytime i have heard their stuff (and an ex of mine was a huge fan, so.have a heard a bit) it just leaves me cold

This will possibly upset some gatekeepers who think their taste is so.wonderful.that it should dictate the taste of others, so be it, i can.live with that.

Re: Pink Floyd
Depends which era of Pink Floyd you listen too, the early stuff is ok, the late stuff is ok as well particuarly The Wall, the bit in the middle from the mid to late 70,s is the stuff of world beaters though.

Dark side of the moon 1973, Wish you here 1975, Animals 1977 are 3 of the best albums ever made by any group or singer in my opinion.
